Welcome from the Steering Committee

The Steering Committee has worked collaboratively to shape this conference with a clear focus: strengthening prevention and response to strangulation as one of the most serious and under-recognised indicators of domestic and family violence.

Drawing on expertise across health, justice, policing, advocacy, research and lived experience, the program reflects the highest standards of evidence and practice. Strangulation is a high-risk, often hidden crime, and improving identification and coordinated responses is critical to preventing escalation and saving lives.

Developed in consultation with frontline professionals and policy leaders across Australia and internationally, the conference supports practical learning, cross-sector collaboration and informed reform. From keynote presentations to expert panels and workshops, every element is designed to strengthen system responses and encourage action.

We look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane for a conference dedicated to breaking the hold through stronger prevention, sharper response and collective impact.
